‘Princes Street is probably my favourite street in the world. I always enjoy walking along and looking at the Castle and the gardens. It’s important that we don’t let it become cheap tourist shops.

We’re a capital city, you know. We have a great arts and culture scene all year round, not just during the Festival. We don’t have enough venues, though, which is becoming a problem. The music scene in Edinburgh was excellent when I was growing up. Now, a lot of venues have been taken down or converted into something else. As a result, the music scene is mediocre, especially compared to Glasgow. We need to protect and cultivate the arts.’
