‘I’m from Mexico, but I went to a Catholic school in San Diego before my family moved here when I was twelve. Going to high school here felt very relaxed in comparison. You know, the social dynamics were very different.


I grew up working class here in Edinburgh, which was in contrast to how I grew up in Mexico.There’s a lot of working class solidarity in Scotland. We can’t speak about that without speaking to the history of Scotland in the eighties and nineties, you know, the miners’ strikes and the gutting of public services. But there’s a real feeling of community within the Scottish working class.


I can’t give you an answer as to my favourite street in Edinburgh, because every street and every corner is my favourite. It’s beautiful. I’m so lucky to live here, and so lucky to be able to do what I do here.’
