‘I came up for the Fringe in the nineties because I was studying drama. I walked the length and breadth of Edinburgh, handing out leaflets and putting up posters, so I got to know it really well.
They used to have Fringe Sunday, and they had floats going down Princes Street with different Fringe performances on. I remember painting one of the floats.
Edinburgh is the only place I’ve lived that I miss when I’m away and am always glad to come back to. The life I live here is the sort of life I’d have liked to live in London. I live near the centre, and everything I need is within walking distance. I always think of the Meadows as the village square. In London, I wouldn’t have known my neighbours if I’d fallen over them, but here, I do. I always bump into someone I know when I’m out and about.’
